They built their houses out of willow branches or tied them together with weeds. The Ohlones hunted and gathered food. Sometimes they would move to get some acorns for their food. The bows they made were strong and flexible. They made them from tree branches, vegetables stalks and animal sinew. The tribes they lived in had 80 to 100 people. The mission in the earlier days was used as a home for catholic Ohlones. In the 1800s, the mission is used for businesses, print shop, and several saloons. Today, the mission is used as a tourist attraction and a part of San Francisco. The mission had another name called Mission Dolores. The reason it is called this is because it is named after a river and lake. The name Dolores is a Spanish word for sorrow. In the book it says that the Virgin Mary is sometimes called Nuestra Senora de los Dolores, meaning Lady of Sorrows.
